What is a Traineeship?

You will receive paid employment under an appropriate industrial arrangement, such as an award or enterprise agreement.
A Training Contract is signed by both the employer and trainee and registered with the NSW Department of Education or Skills Canberra.
A qualification delivered by TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that meets the requirements of a declared traineeship in NSW or the ACT, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
Traineeships typically encompass a broader range of occupations compared to apprenticeships. However, the training duration is generally shorter, lasting between one and two years.

Traineeships, like apprenticeships, are employment opportunities that combine practical work experience with structured on-the-job and off-the-job training.

With over 600 traineeship vocations available, these programs provide employment and training opportunities across various sectors, including multimedia, information technology, sport and recreation, hospitality, retail, and primary industries.

Traineeship Options:

Full-time Traineeship

Employers including GTOs are responsible for providing all on-the-job training for trainees. In collaboration with the trainee, employers can select a training provider for the off-the-job training component. determine a flexible training plan to suit business needs.

Part-time Traineeship

Under this arrangement, the trainee is guaranteed a consistent work schedule, including a minimum number of hours dedicated to both on-the-job and off-the-job training each week.

School Based Traineeship

You can undertake a School-Based Traineeship as part of your Higher School Certificate (HSC). This arrangement allows you to complete your HSC while simultaneously gaining a traineeship. The traineeships available through this scheme are among the most popular. Although it requires additional effort and time, you will have the opportunity to earn while you learn.
